Willem from Enschede is hosting a alleycat this weekend. He calls it “artycat” and it sounds really interesting.

The race is going to be part of my final exhibition show for art-school. The
racers will be riding around with parts of the exhibition and the winner has
to put his manifest on the wall. On the back of each manifest is an original
poem, written by me. So it’s up to chance and speed which poem is going to be
featured on my exhibition.
You must know that my work revolves around the concept “place”. The house on
the spokecards is actually a project I did. I built a small house on top of
the art-academy. A place for thinking, dreaming, being.
Just like a bike.
Because for me a bike is a destination, not just a way of transport. Being on
the bike. Riding.
Anyway, that’s the idea and that’s why I organised the alleycat.

I think this is a great concept and of course a nice plan for a saturday afternoon. So make sure to visit Enschede this weekend.

Bicycle Portraits is great and interesting project from south africa. a mystery for most of us and i think mostly unknown. this project gives a inside look on bicycle culture in this area of the world.
every bike pictured is unique and so is the owner. different opinions and ways of using this two wheeled thing. pretty interesting. i talked to one of the makers of the book and he seem to be a good guy with great ideas in mind. this project is def. worth a look and of course a great thing to help.
check out the following pages to get a idea about this and make sure to pleadge some books. the book yo’ll get in the end will be worth it!

Eine nette Überraschung hatte ich heute im Briefkasten. Robert von irRational hat mir sein neuestes Produkt geschickt. Es handelt sich um eine kleine Werkzeugtasche aus Cordura mit Klettverschluss. Die irRational Sachen werden alle per Hand in Hamburg hergestellt. Die Qualität ist super und das “Black Pack” wird auf jeden Fall in meine Tasche wandern.
Schaut mal auf die irRational Seite, dort könnt ihr die Sachen erwerben. Es gibt übrigens auch eine schöne Kollaboration mit Suicycle die es aber nur direkt im Laden zu kaufen gibt.

I really dig this old and edgy stem. It looks like architecture, not really a bike part, but a piece of art.
Sadly those beauties are pretty rare, especially in shorter versions. So Cinelli decided to re-issue it and fit it a 1-1/8th steerer tubes. Pretty nice, was waiting for this. Sadly at the moment it is only announced that it will fit oversized bars, hopefully they will release a 25,4 or 26mm version aswell.

The administrative court in Berlin decided NOT TO ACCEPT A FIXED GEAR AS A BRAKE. can someone then tell me how I can stop on traffic lights and junctions every fucking day? Cops are now officially allowed to kidnap your bike. Now that sucks!

They can do whatever they want, THEY WILL NOT STOP US RIDING OUR BIKES!

Als Ergänzung von mir:

Das Urteil spricht von einem Rad das auch keine zusätzliche Vorderrad bzw. Handbremse aufweist.

Das Urteil geht auf eine Klage eines Berliners zurück, welcher brakeless von der Polizei angehalten wurde und auf die nicht vorhandene Verkehrssicherheit hingewiesen wurde.
Er wurde verwarnt und sollte das Rad verkehrssicher machen. Dies Tat er nicht und wurde ein paar Monate später wieder von der Polizei brakeless erwischt.

Daraufhin wurde sein Rad konfisziert und er klagte.
Hinzu kommt auch das er kein Licht dabei hatte, keine Klingel und all diese anderen Kleinigkeiten.

Als Organ in der Münsteraner Gegend und auch im Umland, biete ich mich stellvertretendes gerne als Gesprächspartner für die Polizei und sonstige Institutionen an, um gegebenen Falls Fragen, Unklarheiten, Möglichkeiten und auch (Präventiv-) Maßnahmen zu erörtern.

Ich halte nichts davon “brakeless” ( also mit nur dem Starren Gang als Bremseinheit) durch den Stadtverkehr zu fahren, da dies im schlechtesten Fall nicht nur einem selbst, sondern auch andere Verkehrsteilnehmern schadet.
Ich halte aber ebenso wenig von unverhältnismäßigen Kurzschlussreaktionen, welche das eigentliche Problem nicht bekämpfen und im Prinzip nur den ohnehin schon schwächeren Verkehrsteilnehmer bestrafen.

Denn selbst wenn jedes Fahrrad irgendwann STVO konform ist, wird das sicher kaum Autos davon abhalten, weiterhin Fahrradfahrer anzufahren.

Viel wichtiger als überzogene Maßnahmen sind Kommunikation und Respekt vor jedem Verkehrsteilnehmer. Egal ob es ein kleines Kind auf einem Dreirad, ein Fussgänger, die Oma mit ihrem verrosteten Hollandrad, jemand mit seinem liebevoll aufgebauten Fixed Gear Rad ist, der Busfahrer, Motorradfahrer, Taxifahrer oder  Autofahrer ist.
